Class 1 Pathway Program

The new Class 1 Pathway Program is arranged into 3 tiers. The first tier involves the online Entry Program, which is 40 hours of online learning. The second tier is the Core Learning, this portion of your learning involves 60 hours of 1-on-1 learning in-yard and in-cab. Passing your road test at the end of this training gains you your Alberta Class 1 License. The third portion of training is called Competence Building, this is 17-25 hours of continued learning, once you have completed this portion of training, you earn an unrestricted Federal Class 1 License. 

Our comprehensive training program is led by government-certified Class 1 approved instructors, ensuring top-quality instruction. The training is broken down as follows:

Tier 1: Entry Program $250 - $700

• 40 hours of foundational training (online or in-person) covering industry basics. Prepares you for the Class 1 knowledge test. 
•  (mandatory) – Must register through the Alberta Government Student Portal for access to the online learning modules, $250.
• $700 (optional) – Payable to King Pin Driving Academy for a guided in-person support week, perfect for students who want extra help understanding course material, asking real-world questions, and gaining clarity beyond what's covered in the test.
   

💡 While the course remains online, our in-person support offers a more interactive, stress-free learning experience — ideal for hands-on learners or those new to the industry.
 

Tier 2: Core Learning -$6,550 plus GST 

• 60 hours of in-yard and in-cab training.  
• An additional 8-hour air brake training course is required if a learner does not already have a Q endorsement on their license. $250.00+GST
•  Ends with the Class 1 road test and earns you a restricted Alberta Class 1 license.

Tier 3: Competence Building $ 2,500 plus GST

• 17–25 hours of 1-on-1 training, customized on individual needs.
• Note: Passing lifts license restrictions, granting interprovincial status.

Training is conducted in trucks with 13- or 18-speed transmissions and takes approximately 4-6 weeks to complete.

Hourly Instruction Refresher Training:

• $135.00/hour + GST
• Sessions are sold in 2-hour blocks.
