With 49 years in the trucking industry, he brings a wealth of real-world experience to his role at King Pin Driving Academy. For 21 years, he hauled heavy equipment and Super B trains before transitioning into driver training in Kelowna, where he instructed Class 5 and higher. His focus has always been on developing skilled, confident drivers through practical techniques that build both competence and safety on the road.
He later served as a driver examiner for 10 years, ensuring new drivers met the highest standards before earning their licenses. Now out of retirement, he is proud to continue sharing his knowledge and experience with students at King Pin Driving Academy, helping prepare the next generation of safe and professional drivers.

He has been driving since the age of 17 and earned his Class 1 licence in 1998. Throughout his career, he has operated a variety of equipment and hauled everything from cars and freight

With nearly 30 years of professional driving experience, Mel brings a wide range of hands-on knowledge to his role at King Pin Driving Academy. He has been driving since the age of 17 and earned his Class 1 licence in 1998. Throughout his career, he has operated a variety of equipment and hauled everything from cars and freight to grain bins, wide loads, Super B trains, turnpike and Rocky Mountain doubles, and intermodal freight.
With experience across such a broad range of trucking, Mel understands the importance of safety, proper technique, and adapting to the conditions and equipment in front of you. He brings that real-world experience into his instruction, helping students develop the skills and confidence they need to become safe, capable drivers.
Outside of driving and training, Mel enjoys spending time with his family, working on projects in the shop, and keeping busy with his animals and dogs.
